I’ve never been one for New Year’s Resolutions, I’ve seen so many people wait to New Year to make those changes and then after a few weeks they slide on by. Of course, I also know that in order for change to happen you have to be ready and if you are ready then why wait till New Year to make positive changes?

Last year I was challenged to have a “Word for the Year”. A word I could write down and place somewhere that I could see it every day and see what happened. I looked into this and found that this is a growing initiative created by Ali Edwards of One Little Word.  I thought “what harm can it do?”  So, I tried a few words on for size, I looked for a word that I wanted more of in my life in 2021 and decided on Balance.

I wanted 2021 to bring more Balance to my life.   2020 had brought so much, the pandemic and all its lockdowns brought me Time and Space to reflect on life and what was important to me and my family and in 2021 I wanted to get and maintain Balance.

Now, looking back on 2021 I think I did get balance; another lockdown at the beginning of the year gave me more time to spend with my Mum and my husband and our lovely dog, Hogan. Then as we moved back into a new normal, I was not needed in my full-time job every day of the week and so I gained a new perspective on work life balance and one that I cherished. I worked more with my coaching and hypnosis clients and saw the amazing progress that they made, and I shared in their achievements and was truly grateful to be part of each of their journeys.   In September 2021 I moved back to full time working and my passion for coaching and hypnosis was put on the back burner and I realised that the balance had shifted.  I am lucky that my husband (also a coach and specialising in golf and mind coaching) noticed too and he provided a space for me to settle my mind and allow me clarity.

And now, as we move into 2022, I know that I want that balance back in my life again, and I hope that changes are around the corner that will allow me to regain that balance and to move me into a future that sees me helping more people settle their own busy minds and get the clarity they want and achieve their own goals and also allow me the time to spend with my family.

So, it’s time to pick a new word for the year. I’m still playing around with some words and trying them in for size, but I think this year’s word(s) are Fearless / Courage.  The courage to accept what is offered to me by this wonderful world and to be fearless in running with it.

If you would like to pick a word for the year, here’s how

  1. There is no right or wrong, the word just needs to resonate    with you.
  2. The word can be real or imagined, an action or a thought or feeling.  Maybe it’s something that you want more of in your life or a word that motivates you or inspires you, or maybe one that challenges you.  You might choose a word that brings about change, propels you forward, slows you down, helps with focus, or makes a difference in your life.
  3. Incorporate the word into your life.
Write the word down on a post-it and pop it above your desk, pop it in your sock drawer or stick it on your fridge – somewhere that you will see it everyday.  You might even want to make a screensaver for your phone – think how many times a day you look at your phone and how many times you could see that word!

Think of the possibilities that this word can and will bring to your life and write down those possibilities.
  4. Celebrate your word by noting down the things that come to you from this word during the year.

In case you need some, there are some word suggestions below, but remember, whatever word comes to you is the right word

Sending love
